Principal Research Engineer

Principal Investigator on interdisciplinary research projects and the Manager of the Computer Vision and Robotics Laboratory (CVRL) in the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Conduct research with Professor Ahuja and the Civil and Environmental Engineering department on the design and development of Automated Visual Inspection systems and with the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences on the design and development of Information Technology and Sensor System projects. Other research also involves the development of Next Generation Cameras for capturing wide field-of-view images of scenes.

Viraj Shah

Graduate Student

I am Viraj, currently a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I work at Computer Vision and Robotics Lab under the guidance of Dr. Narendra Ahuja. Previously, I completed Masters degree at Iowa State University, where I also worked as research assistant at DICE Lab under the guidance of Dr. Chinmay Hegde. My current research mainly focuses on Computer Vision, Deep Learning and Machine Learning. I have also explored Inverse problems in Imaging (e.g. compressive sensing) and Generative Models in past through my research projects.

Xiaodan Hu

Graduate Student

I’m a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Prof. Narendra Ahuja, specializing in computer vision and multimodal deep learning. I’m currently working on multimodal video understanding and video generation, with a focus on the domain of dances. Also, I’m in collaboration with AIFARMS project, developing AI technologies to enhance the performance of animals. Before joining CVRL, I was a master student of the Vision and Image Processing Lab of University of Waterloo under the guidance of Prof. Paul Fieguth and working closely with Prof. Alexander Wong.

Moitreya Chatterjee

Graduate Student

Hi! My name is Moitreya and I am a PhD student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, working under the supervision of Prof. Narendra Ahuja. My primary area of research is Computer Vision, and Multimodal Machine Learning. Lately I have mostly been working on deep generative models but I have dabbled with other related research themes too. In my (not so) past life, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, where my research was supervised by Prof. Louis-Philippe Morency and Prof. Anton Leuski. I have also had the fortune of interning at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, MA and Samsung Research America, CA.

Achleshwar Luthra

Undergraduate Student

I am Achleshwar Luthra, an undergraduate student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani. I’m a Visiting Undergraduate Researcher at Computer Vision and Robotics Lab under Prof. Narendra Ahuja and Ph.D. Xiaodan Hu. I’m working in collaboration with AIFARMS project, where our goal is to develop AI algorithms for Agricultural practices. Recently, I got the privilege to work with BAIR group where my primary focus was exploring single-view 3D reconstruction algorithms. I have also been working closely with Prof. Kamlesh Tiwari at AI Lab @ BITS Pilani in the domain of Activity Recognition in Videos.

My name is Bryant and I am an undergrad student at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I’m currently working with Xiaodan on AIFARMS project. My primary interests are Computer Vision and generative adversarial networks.

Ivanshu Kaushik

Hi I’m Ivanshu Kaushik, a senior year undergraduate at Birla institute of technology and science, Pilani, India. I am a visiting student at CVRL under Prof. Ahuja. I am working on the AIFARMS project, where we are trying to develop AI based solutions for practical problems. My main research interests lie in 3D computer vision including but not limited to reconstruction and depth prediction algorithms.
